Food Assistance Benefits

FoodShare:

Notice: Anyone getting FoodShare for March and/or April 2020 may be getting additional benefits. Everyone getting FoodShare during those months will get the maximum amount for their household size. The additional March benefits will be added to your Quest card in April 12. The additional April benefits will be added to your card on April 26.  Click here to see the maximum monthly amount for your household size: https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/news/releases/041020.htm

FoodShare is Wisconsin's benefit program for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). You can get a monthly benefit put on a Quest card, which you use like a debit card to buy groceries. FoodShare benefits are based on your income and living expenses.

IMPORTANT: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are unemployed right now. The work requirement for able-bodied adults with no dependents has been suspended until September 30, 2020. This means that you may qualify for FoodShare even if you're having difficulty working right now.

To apply, contact your local consortium or visit access.wisconsin.gov. If you would like some help applying, call Society's Assets at 800-378-9128 and ask for the Independent Living Department for your county.

WIC (Women, Infants, and Children):

The WIC program helps pregnant mothers, families with infants, and kids up to age 5. With WIC, you can buy nutritious food and formula, get immunizations and medical checkups, and get help with other healthy programs like nutrition, smoking cessation, breastfeeding, and development. WIC eligibility is based on household income, among other things.

If you have children under age 5 or are pregnant, you may qualify for some extra help, especially if your household recently lost income due to COVID-19.
